Powell’s Events Preview 8.15 – Ivan Doig, The Americans, and more
While we’re cruising through August, take a minute between pool-side reads and check out some of the exciting things Powell’s has in store for the coming dog days of summer.
August 10: Chitra Viraraghavan will be at Powell’s on Hawthorne at 7:30pm to talk about her most recent novel The Americans, a work that pulls together 11 distinct narratives through the eyes of protagonist Tara, a single indian woman in her mid-30s.
August 18: Ivan Doig’s final novel, The Last Bus to Wisdom, is the story of a young boy bouncing between homes in 1950s middle-america. Craig Lesley and Jeff Baker will be featured in conversation as a tribute to the late author Doig.
August 19: Beastly Bones is the sequel to the adventurous supernatural young-adult novel Jackaby by William Ritter. Join Ritter at Powell’s at Cedar Hills Crossing at 7pm to delve once more into his fantastically crafted world. (See Ritter talk to Booklandia here and here)
August 22: From 12-4pm at the Powell’s at Cedar Hills Crossing come and meet popular children’s and young adult authors. There’s chances to get your books signed and win prizes while learning about SMART.
August 25: Parnaz Foroutan will be promoting her debut novel The Girl From the Garden at 7:30pm at Powell’s City of Books on Burnside. Inspired by events in Foroutan’s life, the novel follows “the downfall of a wealthy family of Persian Jews in early 20th-century Iran.”
August 29: Sue Grafton will be signing copies of X, the most recent in her line of infamous alphabetically titled murder mysteries. The signing will be at Powell’s Books at Cedar Hills Crossing at 4pm.
